Our team

SYSTRA SUBTERRA has an agile structure that allow us to offer our clients a top quality services. Our multidisciplinary staff is composed by qualified people of ten countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Spain, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela).

Continuous learning is a major issue for SYSTRA SUBTERRA, which is why different external and internal training programs have been implemented. We also provide our staff with innovative state of the art technical tools, so that they can achieve a complete professional engagement with our clients.

In SYSTRA SUBTERRA we fully support the principle of gender equality thus 40% of our staff is composed by high qualified women.

José Miguel Galera

José Miguel Galera is Senior Professor in the Dept. of Geological and Mining Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Managing Director of Subterra Ingeniería. He obtained his degree in mining engineering in 1984 and his PhD in 1987. Guest lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Chile and in the CEDEX “Geotechnical Engineering” and AETOS “Tunnels and Underground Works” master’s degrees; he is the author of 51 publications and 93 communications, and has carried out academic activity in 13 universities. In his 38 years of profession he has participated in the design and construction of more than 400 underground works in 35 countries. He chairs the Spanish group WG19 “Conventional Tunnelling” of AETOS, is an expert of the European Union (EU) mining TGC1 and is a member of the EU TC250/SC7 Committee for the Eurocode for Tunnels. He was awarded the 1987 Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain Prize and is a corresponding member of the 8th Section (Engineering). In the past he has been a member of the ASTM Committee D18.02.07, the European Committee for Standardisation CETN TG 341 WG5 and the Spanish AENOR Committee CTN 103 “Geotechnics”.

Manuel de Cabo

Systra Subterra’s technical manager, Manuel de Cabo, a civil engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, has 25 years of experience, all of them dedicated to underground works. His versatility stands out, as his activity covers not only the field of consultancy, but also that of supervision and that of the contractor. In the latter field, Mr. de Cabo worked for OSSA, being responsible for its international division, with works in Greece, Taiwan and Hong Kong. These different types of ventures have provided him with an exceptional insight into tunnel engineering, having been involved in all types of tunnels (rail, road, hydraulic, energy and mining) in more than 15 countries.

Patricia Moya

Manager in Peru, Patricia Moya has a degree in Business Administration and a diploma in Management Specialisation in Administration and Organisation from the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences. She has 23 years of professional experience and her professional development has focused on directing and managing the financial and economic area of the company, assuming the position of Manager in Lima since 2018.

Pilar Aguillón

Manager in Colombia, Maria del Pilar Aguillón is a Systems Engineer from the Antonio Nariño University. She has more than 15 years of experience focused on business development in the civil area. Within her professional development she has focused on multidisciplinary management for the definition of products and services, aimed at strengthening its commercialisation; definition of new opportunities, creation of needs and design of alliance strategies.

Andrés Díez

Andrés Díez is an experienced professional with extensive training and is a ROAC auditor. In addition, he has experience in international projects in Central Europe. He fulfils his role within Systra Subterra as CFO.

Mª Oliva Valvidares

Head of the Drafting Department, Ms. Maria Oliva, Architect by the Central University of Venezuela (1991) and Master in BIM Methodology and BIM Management of Projects, Construction and Real Estate Assets taught by the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with more than thirty-two years of professional experience. In 2014 he joined the SUBTERRA team, participating in the design of numerous underground infrastructures, highway and road projects, railways and metropolitan, hydroelectric and hydraulic projects, mining, as well as assistance works, coordinating interdisciplinary projects and managing BIM speciality teams.

Ero Vinicius Silva Espiña

Mr. Silva, a Mining Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (2005) and Master in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, has more than nineteen years of professional experience and is a member of the Official Association of Mining Engineers of Central Spain. Mr. Silva was Technical Director and previously Project Manager developing underground works projects, as well as monitoring and advising on them. In 2023 he joined the SYSTRA SUBTERRA team as Head of the Design Engineering Department coordinating and designing all types of underground works.

Rafael Sánchez

Rafael Sánchez is a mining engineer, responsible for the Safety Installations Department. He is also secretary of the Tunnels Committee of the Spanish ATC (Technical Road Association). With more than 15 years of experience in the safety installations sector, he has participated in the drafting of numerous road, railway and metro tunnel projects, such as the Guadarrama Railway Tunnels, the Cristo Redentor International Tunnel (Chile-Argentina) and Line 4 of the Lima Metro, as well as in the inspection of more than 100 tunnels of the State Road Network.

Manuel Ramírez

Mr. Ramírez finished his studies in Geology in 1985. In these 37 years he has been fully dedicated to Geotechnics, covering all types of projects and fields within Ground Engineering. It should be noted that since 2011 this activity has focused exclusively on the field of tunnels and underground works, although he had previously been involved in this type of projects. Mr. Ramírez has developed his activity in more than 10 countries, with special emphasis on Chile and Peru where he has developed his professional activity in the last 10 years.

Juan Pablo Fuentes

Responsible for Business Development at Subterra Chile, Mr. Fuentes is a Civil Engineer USM, MSc-USM, MBA-UAI, with more than 22 years of professional experience. As Project Manager and Business Consultant, he has worked in the management of multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, both in the mining and non-mining sector, such as desalination plant, urban highways, astronomical observatory, airfields and airports, urban underground metro projects, among others.

Jader Ruiz

Mr. Ruiz is a Civil Engineer from the University of Antioquia and MSc in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Brasilia, with more than 10 years of experience applied to the design of underground works and geotechnical instrumentation. He has extensive experience in numerical analysis of underground excavations. He has participated in numerous design, supervision and construction consultancy projects in hydroelectric projects and road tunnels, both for public and private companies.
